I've always realised that living near a border has a lot of advantages. In addition to the ease of practicing several languages regularly and having access to "exotic" products, crossing this border (nowadays symbolized by a simple sign) makes us travel in another world, with another culture, another architecture - similar but so different at the same time!
On a beautiful April sunny day, we decided to leave for the day and go to San Sebastián, just 30 minutes from home. San Sebastián is located on the Atlantic coast, and can be easily accessed by two international airports : Bilbao (1h) and Biarritz (40 min). It's really worth it, and the city also has the 2nd highest number of 3* rated restaurants! You can also eat for cheap, is one of the many pintxos bars filling the casco viejo. Tip? the more paper towels on the floor, the best it will be!
On the very clear Atlantic ocean, you can enjoy surf (if the swell is here) or chilling on the beach, or so many more, because there is always something to do in San Sebastián! People speak basque, spanish, and even french or english, and hot days sunsets are filled with a particular feeling, the feeling of fiesta all night long!
This one is an absolute go-to!
